The Krewe of the Nautilus came out to the Kitchen Park in Gibsonton on May 22nd and Palonis Park on April 24th to construct oyster bars by shoveling loose oyster shell into buckets, carrying the buckets to the boats, then placing the shell to form oyster bars. The event was very educational, fun and environmentally fulfilling.
Oysters filter out 2.5 gallons of water an hour of pollutants from the ocean. The shells in the oyster bar provided a landing point for oyster larvea to attach themselves to. Once attached, they grow into oyster having fun filtering all day.
