The Hillsborough River Wilderness Park is a 16,000-acre wildlife preserve. It is recognized by the Florida Wildlife Viewing Guide as one of the best places to view wildlife in Florida and is one of Hillsborough County's jewels. Our trip has been divided into two different two-hour sections. A small county park with picnic tables and restrooms is conveniently located two hours' paddling from our start. The river in this area is flatwater with generally a one-half to one mile per hour current.
The trip meanders along the Hillsborough River through a diverse ecosystem. The trip is downstream. Approximated paddling time will vary with your paddling proficiency, weather conditions, and the water level. However, a comfortable (very easy) paddling time is around 4 to 4.5 hours including breaks
